Microsoft’s Xbox Division Reports 48% Loss For Third Quarter, Blames “Soft” Gaming Console Market

The Xbox 360 has been the top-selling console for the past 15 consecutive months but Microsoft still has to report dropping sales numbers.  The company is seeing a 48% decrease in sales in the third quarter. Microsoft claims it is due to what they call a “Soft Gaming Console Market”. They have lost a total of $229 Million this quarter.

The Kinect accessory is the newest piece of technology Microsoft has offered gamers as of late and it hasn’t swept the masses. With a loss like this Microsoft is most likely looking for their ride back to the top. With E3 right around the corner, I am sure we will hear their new plans for regaining an audience they just might be losing.

It seems new technology all together would be the answer to this problem. Microsoft seems to have shifted focus over to their newest peripheral the Kinect. Loved by some, hated by many, this device is as wishy-washy as it gets. It just does not have something for everyone. Microsoft’s core audience could be at stake if this device is handled wrongly.

What are you expecting from Microsoft at this E3? Do you use the Kinect?
