Thief 4 To Balance New And Old Elements, Won’t Be Just Stealth

Thief 4 was first announced back in 2009, and is currently still in development at Eidos-Montreal. Predictably enough the fourth game in the series, the last title was a PC and Xbox hit in 2004. Whilst earlier games mixed a middle-ages setting with modern gadgets and a steampunk vibe, Thief: Deadly Shadows mixed things up with a more magical edge and also an open world style environment.

The General Manager of Eidos Montreal, Stephane D’Astous, has confirmed to OXM magazine that Thief 4 will continue in this vein of mixing the old and the new, perhaps offering more than just stealth gameplay. He told the site; “We have more international staff working on Thief, which brings a great flavor to the game. There are a lot of challenges to bringing back a great cult IP, but we consider it like a new IP and we are going to respect the spirit of the franchise like we did with Deus Ex.

“Deus Ex was the kick-start of this new series of great games, and Thief will be part of that. We don’t want to deliver the same each time. Our mandate is to bring new stuff to the table; games that we’ll be talking about for years.”

It is also rumoured that Thief 4 will see a major multiplayer component. Hopefully we should see some more of this promising title during E3, whilst a release date would be nice.
