It has been known for a while that Sony Corporation is going through a difficult period. Whilst its PlayStation sector remains strong financially, some other areas of the business are suffering, with the net result that the company has made a loss for the last four years.
Kaz Hirai has recently taken over as CEO of the company, and has promised to turn the ailing business around. Based on reports from Japan it seems that the first step in this plan will be the culling of around 6% of the company’s staff. This number could equate to 10,000 jobs globally.
Any job losses are bad news, but from a gaming perspective hopefully the company won’t be too badly hit. More news on the plan is expected later this week so we will keep you up to date.
