These latest rumors may have given us the early skinny on the specs for the PlayStation 4 (PS4). Sources have told IGN that the PS4, rumored to be codenamed Orbis, will feature a custom chip based on the Radeon HD 7670 GPU and AMD’s A8-3850 APU. The HD 7670 is a reworked version of the HD 6670, which is what rumors have Microsoft’s next Xbox running which means that both new consoles could be pretty even in the graphics processing department this time around. This would be good so us PS3 owners can stop having to hear about how the graphics on PS3 versions of games are always subpar in terms of framerate and what not to Xbox 360.
In terms of the AMD A8-3850, it features a quad-core 2.9GHz processor with an integrated graphics chip. The source noted that these are the CURRENT system specs and things could happen that might change this before the system launches reportedly late next fall. With this much time between now and then I would almost bet on it, but this at least gives us some talking points.
