I have been talking about Shenmue needing to make its way to next-gen consoles for years now and if recent rumors are to be believed then it just might happen. According to a rumor by Gamerzines, Sega has been holding back a completed HD port of the Dreamcast classic for more than a year. If that makes you scratch your head, the report goes on to say that they already have the finished HD sequel waiting in the wings as well. Apparently, Sega has been holding back the titles because they aren’t sure about the future of the franchise and “whether or not Shenmue III would ever see the light of day.” For Sega’s part, they are neither confirming or denying the rumor, but rather discussing their entire Dreamcast library.
The games that were mentioned are definitely among the most requested re-releases. We can’t go into specifics about our future releases, but we are excited to see so much passion surrounding our Dreamcast-era games.
At this point, it’s still a rumor so don’t get your hopes up just yet. The big question is would you like to see Shenmue make its way onto this generations consoles?
