This is getting out of hand as the Mass Effect 3 ending controversy continues to expand to new heights. If you are unaware, there seems to be a large contingent of gamers that didn’t like the game’s ending. Now normally that wouldn’t be an issue, but this isn’t a normal case. It appears that one disgruntled gamer has actually reported Electronic Arts to the Federal Trade Commission, that’s right folks that FTC. Bioware forum member “El Spiko” has accused the publisher of not delivering on its promises to consumers saying, “it was clear that the product we got did not live up to any of those claims.” Spiko has apparently also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and has stated that he will return his copy of the game if its conclusion isn’t addressed within thirty days.

Everyone has a right to their opinion and if you don’t like a game you can return it and decide never to buy a game in that franchise, by that developer or even by that publisher. Those things are all within your right and so is taking the kind of steps this gamer has taken, but we must understand that this is a fine line that we are walking. Video games are above anything I believe creative works of art that are open to interpretation. The writers and developers put years into game’s the magnitude of each Mass Effect and to go this far because you don’t like their work is in my opinion ludicrous. I mean honestly this is a slippery slope, what if you don’t like the ending of a movie or book, will we become the type of society that takes this road against those things too. Personally, I think that games are what they are and if you don’t like them then return them, write a critical but fair review, but don’t attempt to alter someone else’s creative work.

What do you think, is this guy’s strategy ok with you or do you think he has gone too far?
