There have been so many Assassin’s Creed III leaks over the last few weeks that we have lost count, so it was a welcome sight to get true confirmation from Ubisoft today in the form of the announcement trailer.  As the game’s cover and additionally leaked screenshots confirmed the game will bet set at sometime during the American Revolution. In this trailer, we get our first real look at the game’s Native American protagonist: Connor. Keep your eyes peeled for a certain historic figure you may recognize (trust me, he’ll be hard to miss)and ponder his role both in a story of the foundation of a nation and the ceaseless conflict between the Templars and Assassins. Over the last few games we have come to know and love Ezio Auditore, it will be interesting to see if this new hero can be as compelling.assassins-creed-iii-ps3-box-art-1

Since the country wasn’t really developed during that time period and there weren’t many buildings, it looks like it will be all about the trees this time around. It looks as if you will use the trees to stalk your unsuspecting prey and then leap down for some serious hidden blade action. This time period presents some interesting challenges for the development team, how do you stay true to the roots of the game while making situations realistic for the time in history. In all previous  Assassin’s Creed games, they were set in a time when the stealthy approach would work and one assassin could do some serious damage. The cities were most of the time noisy and crowded, but most importantly there were tons of buildings to climb and your enemies very rarely carried guns. Back then, hand to hand combat ruled the day and while during the American Revolution there was quite a bit of that, they also had some serious firepower. It will be interesting to see how the team balances all this out.

Gamers who pre-order Assassin’s Creed III at GameStop, Best Buy, or Amazon will receive a Limited Edition collectible case featuring artwork from award-winning comic book artist Alex Ross. Assassin’s Creed III is due to release October 30 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
