It’s been long rumored that Apple will release a TV this year, and quite possibly call it the Apple iTV. While many would expect this to be taken seriously and a major concern to all current manufacturers of televisions, it appears that the same story could be written again – only with different products and competitors. I’m sure we all remember how Microsoft, Nokia, Research In Motion, and all the other phone manufacturers mocked at Apple’s new idea of a music player, smartphone, and tablet, and those stories turned out … … … EXACTLY. Still yet we have another executive taking early shots at what could be Apple’s next magical device.
Samsung’s AV product manager Chris Moseley, has pretty much sealed the fate of Apple’s iTV. Here’s what he stated in an interview with Pocket-Link:
“We’ve not seen what they’ve done but what we can say is that they don’t have 10,000 people in R&D in the vision category,” [Samsung product manager Chris Moseley] said.
“They don’t have the best scaling engine in the world and they don’t have world renowned picture quality that has been awarded more than anyone else.
“TVs are ultimately about picture quality. Ultimately. How smart they are…great, but let’s face it that’s a secondary consideration. The ultimate is about picture quality and there is no way that anyone, new or old, can come along this year or next year and beat us on picture quality.
“So, from that perspective, it’s not a great concern but it remains to be seen what they’re going to come out with, if anything.”
Is he serious? Whether or not Apple releases the iTV this year is anyone’s guess. However, it can’t be wise to write them off just yet as ill prepared. Maybe they won’t affect Samsung’s market, but that’s not a bet I’m willing to make. Are you? Hit up the comments and let us know!
