Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior was a 2003 film produced in Thailand starring Tony Jaa as a villager skilled in the martial art of Thai Kickboxing. It’s success went on to spawn a sequel/prequel set in the 15th Century and also another similar film starring Jaa, The Protector as it’s known in the US.
Widely considered as some of the best martial arts movies produced in the last 10 years, it has recently been announced that a multiplatform game will be released later in the year that will be based on Ong-Bak. At present no further details have been released regarding the exact platforms, or whether the game will be based on the first movie, or the brand in general.
Coding duties will be undertaken in the films country of birth, with Thailand based developer studio HIVE behind the game. Kan Supabanpot the manager of the studio said: “It’s a great honour for our team to work on the very first Ong-Bak multiplatform game. As a Thai development studio we love the movie and have a deep understanding of the Ong-Bak brand values and we make sure that the videogame will be an inspiring martial arts action experience for gamers.”
