Kid Icarus: Uprising is one of the jewels in the crown of Nintendo’s line-up for 2012. Mixing Starfox type flying sections with more traditional 3rd person shooting elements, it is certainly on our list of games we cant wait to get stuck in to. Nintendo has added fuel to our fire by recently announcing some more details of the games single player mode and how it will work with some new accessories.
A lot of games feature a customizable difficulty setting, with most people just forgetting about it and sticking it on ‘standard’ unless they are after a trophy or two for beating it on ‘insanse’ or whatever the developer has christened the ‘bloody hard mode’. Kid Icarus may well have you tinkering with the setting however, as it offers a high degree of customization using something called the Fiends Cauldron.
Essentially the game will allow you to choose your ‘intensity level’ for each chapter, using increments of 0.1 on a scale from 0.0 – 9.0. Interestingly this will function on a risk and reward basis, with each harder level offering more hearts and weapons, but failure will also cost you dearly in collected hearts. It sounds like this will certainly add replay value to the title, and makes us even more excited for it, as does mention that there will be vehicles to control during the game’s story mode.
You may well be aware that Kid Icarus will utilise the Circle Pad Pro accessory for left-handed players, which is being launched in time for Resident Evil: Revelations. You may not know however that the game itself will come bundled with a completely new piece of plastic; a stand to rest your 3DS on while you play.
Many previews have focused on the fact that the game’s control method (circle pad and stylus aiming) makes for some painful hand contortions, and some nasty memories of playing Metroid Prime: Hunters on the DS make me agree with them wholeheartedly. The stand should make for a more pleasurable and comfortable experience, although of course at the risk of losing portablility. No word yet on whether left-handed players will be able to use both the Circle Pad Pro and stand as one mighty behemoth, but the added girth means it’s probably unlikely. Oh well lefties, at least you’re probably more artistic.
Kid Icarus: Uprising will come bundled with the stand for free, and release on March 23.
