Bioware executive producer Casey Hudson let us in on a very interesting detail about Mass Effect 3. He has revealed that he game will open with three choices in terms of game modes, though he basically said that these relate to difficulty settings. You will be able to choose from story, roleplaying or action and your choice will affect how the game unfolds for you. This move comes from feedback about the last few games that indicated that while most players loved the story, they felt a little intimidated by some of the choices.
According to Hudson these settings pick some of the options on the option screen before you play and then it understands what those options means. As always, you can change things once you start playing. Here’s the breakdown on what you get in choosing each of the three modes:
This setting will make it more difficult to die and makes the action scenes easier, so you can basically run and gun to your heart’s delight.
This setting will fill in default dialogue that grants players access to a lot of interesting things, but “it’s not canon,” because as you all know there is no “canon” in the Mass Effect franchise.
We didn’t get any info on the RPG option, but I’m sure we will learn more about it soon enough. So what do you guys think, is this a good move or are they watering down the game too much. If you all want to read the entire interview which is part of a great GameInformer piece, click here.
