3.7 Million Android Devices Activated Over Holiday Weekend

Android just keeps coming, iOS better pay attention because if they can get the hardware stuff together they could be a problem. I currently own the iPhone 4S but I was a former Android owner and they aren’t bad devices at all, the biggest problem with them is the inconsistency with OS updates and all the different things that hardware vendors put on top of Android that affects its stability and performance. But alas back to the news at hand. We just found out via Andy Rubin that an astonishing 3.7 million new Android devices were activated over the past holiday weekend. That comes out to about 1.85 million daily activations which more than doubles Android’s current average daily activation rate of 700,000.

We got further confirmation of Android’s increasing profile from Flurry Analytics who published their findings on new phone and app purchases. They noted that a mind-boggling 6.8 million new iOS and Android went live on Christmas day alone. That works out to roughly three and half times the December average. Oh yeah, app downloads also crushed all previously known levels reaching a ridiculous 242 million on Sunday.

The crazy part is that next year we will probably be talking about numbers even larger than this.
