For geeks of a certain age, Fighting Fantasy was about as exciting as gaming got back in the 80’s, regardless of the fact that it took place in your head and the pages of a book. If you have never heard of the series, it was basically a kind of ‘choose your own adventure’ type story which contained light RPG elements that usually involved you rolling a die to create your character, battle monsters and tack luck tests etc. Between the early 80’s and early 90’s well over 50 titles were released, and recently developer Laughing Jackal has been converting some of the books into interactive form for smart phones and now also PSN.
The first title released on PSN earlier this year was The Talisman of Death, but since then the first ever book in the series, The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, has been at the top of fans wish-lists. Well wish no more fellow dungeon masters, if you have some funds in your PSN account and a modicum of patience the game will soon be yours.
The title will be available on 9th November on the European PSN store, for £3.49/€3.99. No news yet on the US price or date, although Laughing Jackal has confirmed the game will be released stateside. Check out the trailer below and the list of improvements over the previous title;
• The Log Book now remembers which book you were in (Character, Item or Page)
• The user can now return to the top of the page by pressing the up button when the first option is highlighted
• A ‘Good’ generic alignment portrait has been added to Character Bios
• A new mini game has been added to the end of the quest
