Which Will Sell More, Grand Theft Auto V Or Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3? [POLL]

So by now you have probably heard the news that after an extended hiatus, Grand Theft Auto V will mark the return of one of the most popular gaming franchises ever. This news breaks on the very day that Battlefield 3 releases and just a few days before the resident king of the hill in terms sales Call Of Duty returns with its latest installment, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Most folks anticipate that like every other installment before it, Modern Warfare 3 will crush all previous sales records.

With the announcement of Grand Theft Auto V, I think that there is finally a game that can not only compete with Call Of Duty in terms of sales but surpass it. As you might imagine, this has created quite a bit of discussion (knock down, drag out, fighting) among our internal team about this. Now my position is that Grand Theft Auto will absolutely move Call Of Duty kind of units, in fact I think it will move more. We need only look at GTA IV sales from 2008, when it broke industry records with sales of approximately 3.6 million units on its first day of release and grossed more than $500 million in revenue in the first week, selling an estimated 6 million units worldwide.  By comparison, the last installment of Call Of Duty, Black Ops, sold more than 7 million copies during its first week with approximately 5.6 million of those moved on its first day. My colleague says this is exactly why it should outsell Grand Theft Auto but I see it differently. My argument is that GTA did those numbers 3 years ago and in today’s numbers GTA IV would be at a minimum equal to Black Ops and at best better. Therefore, I argue that GTA V sales will be off the charts to a degree that will make even COD a bit jealous.

But alas, internally we are at a stalemate so we decided to let you guys decide. We want to know from you guys, which one do you think will sell more units, Grand Theft Auto V or Modern Warfare 3. We do know that this is predicated on the fact that we assume that GTA V will release in the next year which at this point we can only hope for but we can hope hard. Anyway, I say that GTA V will rule the day but my colleague seems to think that Call Of Duty will not just beat GTA but that it will crush it. What do you guys think, vote in our poll and leave your thoughts in the comments.
