Sony has confirmed that all PlayStation Vita retail games will also be available digitally on launch day through PlayStation Network. In an interview with Gamasutra, Sony’s Chris Norden said that the strategy was at least partially motivated by the desire for the Vita to be a “completely self-contained device.” There is still no confirmed word on whether the digital versions will be cheaper or by how much but all indications point to a roughly 20% price difference between the full retail copy and its digital counterpart.
When asked a question about free-to-play games on the Vita, Norden said that there will be a process that needs to happen for that but that FTP games would be allowed. Norden went on to confirm what we have reported previously about the 20MB download limit on the 3G, which is equal to what you would see on an iOS device today. The good news there is that there will be no download restriction when using WiFi.
