Microsoft Sold Approximately 1.4 Million Smartphones In Q2 2011, Then There’s Apple’s iPhone 4S

This isn’t the best news Microsoft will hear this week. Multiple reports now cite two analysts as estimating Microsoft’s smartphone sales at 1.4 to 1.7 million sales in the second quarter of this year. Just to get a sense of how pathetic that is, let’s remember that Apple sold over 1 million iPhone 4S preorders in the first 24 hours of availability. Now I know Windows Phone are know where near iPhones, but it is telling nonetheless.

To say that Microsoft has to spend more time on its’ platform is unnecessary. Lately, it seems like they are spending more time winning patent battles – even though that appears to be working flawlessly for them. Maybe they are banking it all on their next platform, or even Nokia.
