Hitman: Absolution Will Reward You Handsomely For True Stealth Play…Hell Yeah!

Hitman: Absolution’s lead producer Hakan Abrak has confirmed that Hitman: Absolution will have some very special achievements/trophies for players who can adopt and execute a truly stealthy gameplay style. Hitman: Absolution actually has a special difficulty level just for folks who think they have what it takes to roll like a real assassin. To get these awesome stealth related trophies/achievements you will have to do several things, “We will get into more details at a later point, but obviously it’s linked to the playing style,” he explained. This latest bit of news makes me very happy because I have been very disappointed with the lack of true stealth games released in the last few years. In fact, there have been so few that younger gamers probably think Assassin’s Creed is a stealth game…it’s NOT. The Hitman franchise is one of few true stealth franchises that gives the player ultimate control and choice as to how to execute their assignment as they see fit. If you have never played a Hitman game, go pick one up and you will see what I mean.

Abakan didn’t give away too much but he elaborated a little more saying “It’s more pacify your enemies, be undetected, maybe solve the challenges in a smarter way. That will probably give you a stealth assassin achievement.” This seems to be in response to footage seen in demo video of Agent 47 killing multiple enemies on path to his target which is a drastic divergence from the gameplay style of the past. In past games, it was a sense of achievement to dispatch a target without anyone ever knowing you were there. I am glad to see that while Hitman: Absolution gives new players to the franchise a chance to go in guns blazing, it does lend itself to the more traditional style of play and even rewards players for it.

In fact, Abrak says that the demo that players have seen up until now were especially staged to show off the game’s new features and should not be assumed to be indicative of a drastic shift in gameplay style or direction. “We have a lot of difficulty levels in the game as well,” he said. “Rest assured, the hardcore fans that like to have replayablity value in the game or want to have this stealth assassin – you know, I’m the ultimate stealth assassin – that playing style, those achievements, are very much in the game.”
