New Playable Character For Batman: Arkham City Announced

One of the most eagerly anticipated titles heading our way in the next few months is Batman: Arkham City, and everything we hear about it just makes the wait more and more unbearable.

It has long been known that, in addition to the caped crusader, you will also be able to take control of a few other of DC’s finest during the game. We have heard about Catwoman and Robin already of course, but it seems that the trophy list for the game has unwittingly unveiled the fourth playable character; Nightwing.

For those not well versed in the history of popular culture as it pertains to comic book fiction, or nerds as we are also known, Nightwing has been a part of comics history since way back in 1963. He was originally a version of Batman from Superman’s home world of Krypton (where a nightwing is a flying animal similar to the bat on earth) but the persona was used by the original Robin, Dick Grayson, as his superhero alias. Got that? In effect then Arkham City will allow for two versions of Robin to stalk the streets, just remember to stay away from green tights. (OK then, pantyhose if you insist) Seriously, I made that mistake once, never again, Ahem.

The trophy list seems to indicate that Nightwing may only be playable if you purchase the Nightwing bundle DLC. What do you make of all of these playable characters? Do they influence your excitement levels for the game or would you rather just spend your time in Arkham City as Bats? My dream is for a really dark detective-led Batman game set in the 40’s and 50’s, akin to a superhero version of LA Noire, but in the meantime this will do nicely.
