Sprint iPhone 5 Launch To Be Exclusive, Verizon & AT&T Will Have To Wait … Does That Make Any Sense?

We told you these rumors would run wild as the iPhone 5 launch announcement gets closer, and this just tops them all. According to sources, the iPhone 5 will launch exclusively on Sprint for several months. And yes, you read that statement correct. In addition to the exclusive release, the iPhone 5 for Sprint will be a 4G WiMAX device.

Check out BGR’s complete source fed knowledge of Sprint’s exclusive iPhone 5:

  • Faster CPU.
  • Larger 4-inch screen, similar to LG’s NOVA display but with a higher resolution.
  • 1GB of RAM.
  • Slightly larger design overall, but thinner and with a larger battery.
  • 32GB of storage.
  • iPhone 5 exclusive software and APIs (Assistant).
  • Dedicated Assistant button, possibly integrated with the new home button, “think gestures or a two-stage button like a camera shutter key).

So how did all this purportedly happen? Well Sprint has agreed to purchase $20 billion worth of iPhone 5s (or approximately 30 billion iPhones) over the next four years. What does this mean for Big Red and Ma Bell? Quite simply, they will have to wait until next year to release their 4G LTE iPhone 5s.

It’s important to note that none of this has been confirmed. But would it make any sense if it were true? Why would Apple alienate the two powerhouse carriers who happen to be their current cohorts? More importantly, why would Apple think you would wait any longer to purchase the iPhone 5 when viable options are readily available? In my opinion, there are just too many questions that can’t be answered, and I can’t see this exclusive deal happening. What about you?
