If you have yourself a Nintendo 3DS (and if not why not, haven’t you seen how cheap they are?) then you are due for a little treat when you see that little light flickering today. To celebrate the anniversary of the Legend of Zelda franchise, Nintendo has made Zelda: Four Swords available as a free download.
Although the game is based on the GBA original, it has the brand new addition of a single player mode to keep you going when you just can’t get three friends together for some rupee hijinks. The single player mode actually has you controlling two Links, with a tap of the shoulder button switching between your two characters for co-op control. In addition to this all-new mode there have also been several new areas added to the game for you to explore on your own or with chums.
Although online multiplayer and spruced up and 3d-ified (that’s a word right?) graphics would have been nice, we need to remember this is a freebie, and also that it works on the DSi as well as the 3DS. If you own either of those machines you really do owe it to yourselves to grab this great game, but there’s no hurry as you have until February 20th to pick it up. If you’re bored with Ocarina of Time and biding time until Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land this could well keep you handheld fiends ticking over.
