RAGE Will Require An 8GB Install On PS3, 3 Disc On Xbox 360

We knew RAGE was going to be big, but we didn’t know that it was going to be this big. At the Eurogamer Expo, Tim Willits, the creative director for RAGE confirmed that the game will be spread out across three discs for the Xbox 360 and require an 8GB install for PS3 owners. As we said earlier, this isn’t that big of a surprise since we told you a while back that RAGE would require roughly 22GB if you wanted to install it on your 360 hard drive.

The 8 GB installation on the PS3 had been suspected for a while and id Software gave props to Sony for working with them to work out the details in managing the installation and permitting one of that size. “Sony was great. Kudos to Sony for letting us do that,” Willits said. “They don’t allow every game to do that. So definitely, hats off. What we were able to do is install all the textures to the highest level.”

While you don’t have to install the game to the hard drive for 360, id recommends it. According to Willits “you don’t need to install all three discs. If you don’t have the space available on your hard drive, don’t stress. Install the first disc, the first chapter, the first half of the game, then when you’re done, uninstall and install disc two.” Now this is the thing that I don’t necessarily like about the 360, who wants to change disc all those times?  In this case, if you wanted to go back and play the game again and you didn’t have enough free hard drive space, you would have to delete the second disc and reinstall the first disc again. For 360 gamers I’m sure this isn’t that big a deal since they are used to it, but as a PS3 gamer I would hate to have to keep up with all those discs, I know I would lose them.

Bottom line is that RAGE is going to be awesome on both platforms and if you haven’t already, get your HD space ready.
