Given Apple’s recent showdown with Samsung and the Galaxy Tab launches, you should expect nothing less than this. We’ve all pretty much concluded that the iPhone 5 will be announced pretty soon and launched sometime this October. However, with this launch Samsung is preparing to shut it down before it actually happens … in Korea that is.
The Korea Times reports that an unidentified senior executive from Samsung Electronics stated, “Just after the arrival of the iPhone 5 here, Samsung plans to take Apple to court here for its violation of Samsung’s wireless technology related patents. `For as long as Apple does not drop mobile telecommunications functions, it would be impossible for it to sell its i-branded products without using our patents. We will stick to a strong stance against Apple during the lingering legal fights.’’
If this is true, one would have to assume that this would be the case in other countries as well. More importantly, it proves that patent wars are just heating up. But really, how much could this affect Apple sales of the iPhone 5? It may just increase availability in other market, #justsaying! However, the Korean Market is definitely one that should not be overlooked. Thoughts?
