Yesterday, the Madden Ratings Czar, Donny Moore released the Week 1 Roster Update for Madden NFL 12. This update has over 1300+ transactions (to see them all click here), for both the normal online rosters as well as the online franchise rosters. NFL teams had to cut down from 90 to 53, so safe to say there is a lot of player movement reflected in this roster update. You can download the roster update for normal online games now for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Online Franchise rosters are still being finalized and will likely be ready for download by mid or late next week. And just like last year we can look forward to weekly roster updates throughout the NFL season from the Madden Live Support Team. Honestly, with all the movement I don’t know how these guys do it but they manage to pull it off. Unfortunately, there is a problem in terms of if you want to give yourself the best chance to win in Madden.
I was online last night playing a game of Madden with a friend, he picked the Ravens and I took the Saints. It was a good game but I noticed I really wasn’t getting any pass rush, not the kind that I thought I should be getting with Will Smith and Cameron Jordan on the edges and Aubrayo Franklin in the middle. It wasn’t until the 3rd quarter that I noticed that they weren’t actually playing. Nope, Franklin, Jordan and Smith were on the Saints bench. Now for what its worth this was technically correct in some cases like Will Smith is actually suspended for the first two games of the season for the StarCaps thing so he was right not to be in the starting lineup. Jordan (77) while much better rated then Turk McBride (69) is also not the starter in real life.
So while the rosters in this first update are very authentic in terms of accuracy, by default they will not give you the best chance to win all the time. In Madden, I always try to play the guys with the best rating especially when there is a significant difference in their rating. For example, the Bengals are starting Robert Geathers (76) over Carlos Dunlap (84), that’s a significant difference. Dunlap is significantly faster, stronger and more agile. Now Geathers wins in terms of tackling slightly and awareness and while those are great traits in Madden I believe that Dunlap would give you the better chance to get pressure on the QB resulting in a better chance to win the game. The bottom line on this is just be aware, your default depth chart might not have the best rated players starting at every position and it could be costing you in online games so before you get too deep in a game make sure that your very best players are in the game giving you the very best chance to win.
Alright that’s it, enough talking about Madden, its time to go play some. I’ll see you online, well…hope you don’t see me or your going to take an L lol, j/k…naw not really. :)
