All reports now seemingly suggest that the iPhone 5 will launch this October, and be offered on Sprint’s network. Most importantly, it’s being reported that Sprint will offer the iPhone 5 with an unlimited data plan. If true, this sets Sprint up as an attractive alternative to the current carriers of the iPhone, Verizon Wireless and AT&T. Peter Rhamey, an analyst at Bank of Montreal, stated that “The advantage of unlimited is, it’s cheaper for the big users.” People don’t like bill shock”, and “Consumers will pay a premium for unlimited.”
As far as what this should do for the third player in the market, Matthew Thornton, an analyst at Avian Securities LLC, stated “It’s a competitive disadvantage if your two larger competitors have the iPhone and you don’t,” Thornton said in an interview. “Getting the iPhone closes that gap.”
