With Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on the horizon, many of you may have forgotten that a while back there was a lot of buzz about a 3rd person COD title that was in the works, ever wonder what happened to it? We did and now we know. Originally, Activision brought on Sledgehammer Games to develop this title to take the franchise in a new direction, but with all the issues at Infinity Ward the Sledgehammer team had to abandon their project to give IW an assist.
“We came on board to make a third person action adventure game, in the Call of Duty franchise, and we were working on it about six months,” Sledgehammer co-founder Glen Schofield
Sledgehammers other co-founder Michael Condrey went on to say that they already had an early version of the game that was “pretty compelling and it looked really good”. While Sledgehammer loved the project they were working on, they ultimately felt like they couldn’t pass up the opportunity to work on the game that will quite possibly be the best-selling game of the year and the best in the franchise to date.
Just in case you were wondering there is no word on whether this 3rd person COD game will ever get the greenlight to be finished but Activision has said that they may revisit the concept at some point in the future. Yeah, I wouldn’t hold my breath for that because it looks like Modern Warfare 3 is going to break all of Black Ops records and then some. Not to mention the fact that Treyarch is already working on their follow-up to Black Ops and you could bet that Activision will be pouring all available resources into to the FPS COD for the foreseeable future. It was a nice idea though.
