Well I guess that means you guys like Call Of Duty: Black Ops right? According to a report, the average Black Ops players spent $76 on the total game experience. That means that on average, most Black Ops players buy at LEAST one map pack. Now if you guys follow this site on a regular basis then you might not be one of those folks since we give them away free every time they come out. Oh you weren’t aware of that, cool, now you know. The figure comes from revelations revealed by Activision CEO Eric Hirschberg at an investor event in L.A. Hirschberg went on to say that to date there have been 18 million maps pack sold for the game, crushing the last record that was set by Modern Warfare 2 by more than 7 million map packs.
The CEO wasn’t done though as he went on to reveal even more interesting game facts. Collectively, Call Of Duty: Black Ops players have accumulated over 2.3 billion hours of gameplay. To put some perspective around that, that’s like a 250,000 years of play time and lots of people spend more time on Black Ops everyday than they do on Facebook. Hirschberg went on to say that Activision isn’t releasing more and more map packs for each game just because they want to make money, he says that what they are seeing is that gamers want to spend more time and go deeper into a smaller number of games and in that respect I think he may be right. I know folks that don’t play anything besides COD and/or shooters.
Either way, if the current trend holds true then this time next year we could be looking at Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 having people spend near $100 on the total MW3 experience and be looking at between 25 and 30 million map packs sold. Bottom line is that the rumors of the COD franchises demise seem to be just a tad bit off.
