Consequences are becoming more and more important in video games. Morality choices regularly pop up in all sorts of titles, from RPG’s to adventure games to shooters. The Mass Effect series has always been one of the flagships of this ‘choice dynamic’, and now it seems the final game in the trilogy will be no different, and actually allow you to completely screw up the mission and still finish the game.
Website Nowgamer recently bagged an interview with Mike Gamble, of Bioware. When asked whether the developers were taking some risks with the plot, and even allowing the Reapers to win, he replied to the question “Yes”. Not the most quotable comment, but it backs up what Bioware have already said about how your relationship with your crew will affect your ability to finally end the Reaper menace. [SPOILER ALERT]
Mass Effect 2 enabled the player to sacrifice themselves for the greater good at the end of the main mission, and then to start afresh as a fresh character for the sequel, and it looks like Mass Effect 3 will be even more ambitious this time around.
