Well this is disappointing to hear but I think deep down inside we all kind of knew the truth. In a recent interview with Eurogamer, Sony’s President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, finally put us all out of our misery with a few brutal and harsh words.
Once a game gets RAM we never give it back…It’s not possible to retrofit something like that after the fact.
So why does that matter? Since the games we play on PS3 are pulling so much memory to run the game’s there isn’t enough RAM left to power a cross-game chat feature. To find out after all this time that it can’t do it only slightly pisses me off, being lead to believe that one day it “might” be possible does. This RAM issue had to be known years ago and instead of coming out and just telling us the truth they kept leading us on. What is even more aggravating is that when Sony was hyping the PS3 up it was a “feature” that they showed off to show what could be achieved with the power of the PS3. This pretty much closes the door on the #1 MOST wanted feature for the PS3.
So if you are a Sony fan like me, looks like you are going to have to pick up a PlayStation Vita if you want cross game chat from them any time soon. We know you all feel some kind of way about this, can I get a COME ON MAN!!
