Codemasters has confirmed that the safety car will make it F1 videogame debut in the upcoming F1 2011 which as you all no doubt know is the official Formula One videogame and will be released for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on September 23rd. The news was broken in an unusual fashion by the lead designer of the game Steve Hood and Communications manager Andy Gray both announcing it via Twitter. “Hang on, what’s this? That’s right, the SAFETY CAR IS IN!!!” said Andy Gray (along with posting a picture that you can see below) with his colleague Steve Hood saying that “Okay, okay… Safety Car is in this years’ game…Going to be awesome!!”
Fans and people who regularly watch the sport of F1 will already know exactly what the safety car is and what it does but for those who don’t it leads the pack around at the circuit at a reduced pace in dangerous conditions such as extreme wet or after a crash. Racers have to hold station behind it and aren’t allowed to pass each other. Fans have been after this feature for a while and with good reason as it can have a huge impact on race strategy so the game can feel even more authentic than before with fans getting one the most realistic racing experiences possible.
