Do you like zombies, cheerleaders, or lots of bloodshed? If so, then you’ve come to the right place. Suda 51 is serving all this up and more in its upcoming title Lollipop Chainsaw. Despite what you may expect, the game doesn’t make all the blood and guts its selling point. In fact Goichi “Suda51” Suda (president of Grasshopper Manufacture ) says “Instead of sprays of blood, we have the zombies emitting bursts of pink light, when it comes to gore, we can certainly go that way if we want, but we wanted to give the game more of a ‘pop’ feel.”
Juliet Starling or “Lollipop”, the main character of this twisted story, is a chainsaw wielding, zombie destroying, cheerleader from San Romero High School. Watch as she stylishly cuts down the undead with finesse and one liners. Yoshimi Yasuda (president of Kadokawa Games, ) had this to say about Juliet: “Since Juliet’s a cheerleader, there’s going to be action moves that take advantage of her cheerleading skills, there are other ways to attack outside of the chainsaw, too, and part of the fun is figuring out which move to use at which time.”
The story begins with our innocent looking, zombie vanquisher going to meet up with her boyfriend at her high school. Once she arrives…. well… you can guess what happens next. Suda made some comments on the school environment as well: “Actually I’ve wanted to do a crazy horror-action game like this set in a school for a while now, something where the classrooms, corridors, gymnasium and so on are suddenly transformed into something completely different. I was also working on a game concept centered around using a chainsaw as a weapon, and once the idea for the Juliet character began to form, it was just a perfect fit.”
So your probably wondering, ” when can I get my hands on it?”. On closing remarks Suda said: “The game’s framework is complete, and now we’re deep into the fine-tuning process, I’d place it at around 70 percent complete. It’s really a new era for zombie games — a piece of ‘pop’ zombie entertainment.” You should see the game on shelves for PS3 and Xbox 360 next year. So, without further adieu, I present to you, Lollipop Chainsaw.
