Sony and LG have finally resolved a patent dispute that involved technology used in smartphones, TVs and Blu-ray technology. The companies decided to squash the beef and have signed a cross-licensing deal according to LG. It looks like both companies figured out that this just wasn’t worth fighting over and the patents in question probably overlapped across some much stuff that the cross-licensing deal should make both parties happy.

Sony and LG have been partners for years but this latest set of lawsuits was suit off after the companies failed to renew a technology sharing agreement that expired three years ago. From a gaming perspective this is notable since LG had said that the PS3 utilized technology that infringed upon its Blu-Ray video technology. It even got so bad a few months ago that several PS3’s were seized by customs in the Netherlands following a court injunction by LG. So crisis averted…till the next time.
