Anonymous has a new target and its Facebook, or at least it kind of does. The group as a whole has denied that they are organizing or supporting an official attack on Facebook, but did acknowledge that some hackers associated with the group are thinking about it.
“To press … #OpFacebook is just another fake! We don’t ‘kill’ the messenger. That’s not our style,” the @anonops Twitter feed tweeted early this morning. A few hours later though they posted a tweet that said, “#OpFacebook is being organised by some Anons. This does not necessarily mean that all of #Anonymous agrees with it.” So will they or won’t they, at this point its hard to tell. Anonymous is and always was a group held together by loose connections and they have no main leader or governing body.
At this point though, I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens on November 5th, the date that Anonymous is supposedly going to hack Facebook. I’m not saying they can’t do it, because anything is possible but it would be difficult to start and giving Facebook a heads up won’t help their cause. Honestly, I have to believe that if they really are going to try and hack Facebook it won’t be Nov. 5th, I would bet that it would be much sooner than that. More than likely the date is just a diversion, you make your enemy look left and then you hit them from the right.
If you were wondering the #OpFacebook effort selected November 5 because it is Guy Fawkes Day, which commemorates a failed plot to blow up England’s House of Lords in 1605. Stay tuned folks, this is going to get good.
