Snake? Snaaaaaaaaake? How many times have you heard those words? Well you certainly aren’t alone, as Kojima Productions has today announced that over 30 million copies of games in the Metal Gear series have been sold worldwide since 1987. The company stated that, “The series “Metal Gear” has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. There may be other more impressive records out there, but if we take into account the platforms and the number of titles in the series, this milestone is awesome!”

Bridging platforms as diverse as the MSX, Gameboy Color and PlayStation 3, the original game basically invented the stealth action genre, and honed it into perfection over the years, particularly when technology finally caught up with Kojima-san’s ambitions. Metal Gear Solid 4 was many players first epic game for their freshly bought PS3 and the dynasty shows no signs of slowing down. Metal Gear Rising, The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection and Snake Eater 3D are all on their way soon, and we hear continued rumors of a remake of MGS4 on Vita. Congratulations to Kojima Productions and long live Snake! What do you mean he’s dead?
