Square Enix has confirmed that the game formerly known as True Crime: Hong Kong will now release in 2012 under a completely different name and thus ends the True Crime franchise. As we reported earlier this week, Square acquired the game from Activision after they dropped the game saying that it just wasn’t good enough. All the primary development duties will remain the original developers United Front Games. After that they pretty much went mum saying that they don’t have any more info about the game at this time and we will find out more in the coming months.

Just to catch you up on the backstory, the game takes place on Hong Kong Island and will be an openworld action game featuring the island’s unique and distinctive buildings and districts. Players take the role of Detective Wei Shen, a local cop working undercover to infiltrate the Triads.
