Kalypso Media has announced Port Royale 3, a game which will allow players to sail the Caribbean Sea during the 17th Century and have many an adventure as they take on the role of a young captain who can choose to either be a “heroic captain, villainous brigand or savvy merchant”. The game is set within an era when the naval powers of England, France, the Netherlands, and Spain all wanted to be the supreme ruler of the colonies so players will have to be wary of enemies throughout their travels.
The campaign mode in the game is made up of two different paths for the young captain to follow with one being ‘adventurer’ and the other being ‘trader’. Adventurers will embark on naval conquests and gain notoriety through “raids, piracy, bounty hunting, plundering and conquering cities,” while the trader will use economic means to become a trading hotshot in the New World by “setting up trade routes, building production facilities and developing cites.”
For those who fancy a break from the campaign mode there is also a free-play mode in which can obviously do as they wish which could included combining the Adventurer and trader paths to create a scenario where you increase both your wealth and power. Multiplayer modes will also be included where players can go head-to-head using what the official press release is calling “commercial, economic and conquest simulations to allow for fast-paced gameplay,” in real-world locations.
Currently in development with Gaming Minds, Port Royale 3 is slated for a Q2 2012 release on PC and consoles.
