Infinity Ward Puts To Bed The 9/11 Comparison Worries About Modern Warfare 3

If you haven’t noticed in all the released content from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 events over the past few months, New York City get invaded by the Russians just like Washington D.C. in MW2.  (Think that kind of goes without saying based on the “Wolverines” mission from MW2, however just in case you didn’t get the memo..consider yourselves informed..)  However, MW2 didn’t take us on the journey across the U.S. to help rid the major metropolitan areas repel the entire Russian Army and Navy apparently.  Instead we traveled all over the world following Task Force 141.  So, flashing backwards? Forwards? Flash in some direction, MW3 has players gear up and go to work on our home based Russian problem in NYC.  Not a big deal right?  Well…

It has been pointed out that some folks across the pond have already attempted to compare the England based missions in MW3 to those events of the 7/7 bombings.  Granted, the events of the MW series are based upon terrorists events, they also happen to be based on a World War III type scenario where the Russians pretty much bring the fight to everyone they’ve disliked over the past..oh..40 or 50 years..but who’s counting.  That being said, a few news media outlets in the U.S. have attempted to make some comments on MW3 and 9/11.  (..and here we go..)  However, Infinity Ward’s Creative Strategist, Robert Bowling, had this to offer in a recent interview, “I’m not too worried about it because the conflict that’s raging in Modern Warfare 3 is very different from any real life scenario because this is a war, this is a full-on Russian military invasion of the entire US that started in Modern Warfare.  They have already disabled Washington DC and the war has just organically been progressing off the East Coast.”

I think it goes without saying that everyone involved at Infinity Ward and the MW series are aware of the sensitivities surrounding 9/11 and 7/7 respectfully.   The media on the other hand, seems to be using the ghosts of those events to conjure up press more so than remembering those tragic events for what they were and should try not to apply them to the story line of a video game that is completely unrelated.  Just saying..

I started gaming when it was nothing more than green screens and clunky keyboards. Today, I play everything and anything that provides for a gaming experience. Good, bad, indifferent, and some times even ugly. I'm here to tell you whats up.
