Twisted Metal Finally Stops Running From Its Inevitable Mature Rating

Keep the kiddy-winkles away from this one; Twisted Metal will now have a tasteful ‘M’ certificate plastered over it for US release later this year. Originally the plan of Eat Sleep Play, developers of the latest in the Twisted Metal series, was to launch the game with a ‘T’ rating, to try and attract a broader audience to the title. In fact at E3 last year the exec producer Davd Jaffe had been insistent that the game wouldn’t lose anything in translation to a slightly younger audience.

His words may seem particularly tasty today however, as from his own mouth at Comic Con comes the statement that “Without the blood it felt a little weird frankly.” As if to prove the point, the Comic Con demo of the game highlighted a particularly nasty (but accurate!) sniper shot resulting in an unfortunate head exploding like an over-ripe watermelon. Don’t you love mature ratings?

Can it steal the crown of online gaming from COD?

As Twisted Metal is well known for its dark comic book styling and variety of weapons, this can only be a good thing in my book. What say you, fellow gaming chaps?
