Samsung Galaxy S II To Be Marketed Directly Against Apple’s iPhone 5, Launching First On Verizon Wireless As The Samsung Function?

Competition makes you better, and I’m guessing Samsung feels like their Samsung Galaxy S II, which should be coming to the U.S. next month, is capable of standing toe to toe with Apple’s iPhone 5. That’s exactly right if what industry analyst Paul Mueller is saying is accurate. According to Mueller’s sources, the Samsung Galaxy S II will launch on August 12th as the Samsung Function on Verizon Wireless, and follow suit with the other carriers “within a month.”

Mueller goes on to state that,

I’m not sure about the exact date, but I’ve been told that August 12 is a possibility. It will arrive first on Verizon and then the rest of the carriers within a month. Samsung will market this directly against the iPhone 5

Sounds good to me! However, this only really matters to me if the iPhone 5 is actually released around that time. While it’s only rumored speculation at this point, it’s worth noting the possibility of Samsung going head to head with Apple’s much anticipated launch of the iPhone 5. Is this the best move for Samsung? Is it even possible with the Droid Bionic rumored to launch August 4th? I guess we will see! Hit up the comments and let us know what you think! Btw, the Samsung Galaxy S II is packed with a “a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, an 8-megapixel camera on the back, and a front-facing 2-megapixel camera.”
