It was announced at Comic-Con over the weekend that the multiplayer mode in Gears of War 3 will feature a ‘casual mode’ which is designed to help ease new players into the chaos of bullets and chainsaws that is the Gears of War multiplayer experience. One of the features of the new mode will be an aim assist which I could really do with when I play Gears but unfortunately for me and a lot of you experienced players looking forward to a multiplayer channel full of inexperienced players to slaughter, you will not be allowed in to play and I shall tell you why.
Essentially, if you’re an experienced player, casual mode is locked off. That’s it. You just simply won’t be able to get anywhere near it and to be able to gain access you must be free from Gears of War 1 and Gears of War 2 achievements, and can’t have played the Gears of War 3 beta. Dedicated casual multiplayer channels will remain free of experienced players. This is in addition to the game’s casual mode for the campaign. Good news for newcomers but bad news for fans of preying on weak and inexperienced players.
I’m quite good at the campaign mode and so don’t really need the casual mode in that aspect but I’m really bad at multiplayer and something like casual mode would help me a great deal so the fact that I won’t be able to use it (I’ve played Gears of War 2) annoys me slightly. What do you think of the inclusion of this new mode/difficulty level? Leave you opinion in the comments below and remember the all important info that Gears of War 3 will be released on 20th September 2011 for the Xbox 360.
