Anyone else looking forward to the release of Relics’ Warhammer 40K: Space Marine later this year? As a self-confessed uber-geek (what, you guessed?) whose shaking hands have tried to bring out the highlights in many a lead Ork, the recent news of a multiplayer aspect to the game has me shaking my scatter dice in anticipation.
Two factions will be available for the eight vs eight online play; both good(ish) and Chaos flavors of Space Marine. There will be five maps at launch with a standard team deathmatch available and also another mode based around taking and holding key areas which sounds a little like Star Wars: Battlefront. There are also three separate classes of marine to select, which you can unlock as you collect XP, COD style.
Although the online part of the game does sound a little barebones at the moment, more maps and modes are promised for future DLC, and new playable races can’t be ruled out. There is also a customization and painting mode in the game which apparently allows for 1.8 billion combinations that use the exact color schemes available for the real life miniatures. Now that’s dedication.
