Swype Gets $2.5 Million In New Funding, Expects To Be On Over 100 Million Devices By End Of The Year
The makers of our favorite way to enter text on our Android device is getting an injection of new capital, approximately $2.5 million. In an interview with AllThingsD, Swype’s CEO, Mike McSherry, said that Swype has become profitable in recent quarters, but said the additional funding will help the company continue to bulk up in its effort to bring its virtual keyboard to more places. This brings the companies new funding acquired in the last 5 months to $6 million dollars.
The company estimates it is now on half of Android phones shipping and is still hoping to find its way onto other leading smartphones and tablets. The company is already on 50 million devices and expects to be on double that many by the end of this year. Lots of folks are still hoping that Swype finds its way to the iPhone but the company says it still doesn’t have any news on that front.
