Arkham City’s Robin Gets New Concept Art, Senior Concept Artist Explains All

Batman: Arkham City is one of the most anticipated titles of the year and the fact that it was confirmed by Rocksteady that Batman’s trusty sidekick Robin was going to appear was treated with much scepticism by fans. The main reason being that most people know Robin as being a bit pathetic and can’t picture anything other than the ‘Boy Wonder’ that they know well but Rocksteady are trying to steer away from that image as senior concept artist, Kan Mutfic, explained on the Rocksteady forums.

This version of Robin will aim to steer away from the 'Boy Wonder' stereotype

Senior concept artist Kan Mutfic said of the character:

“We wanted to create a Robin that players would identify as a contemporary character and move away from the traditional “Boy Wonder” image that most people know. Our vision of Robin is the one of a troubled young individual that is calm and introverted at times but very dangerous and aggressive if provoked. The shaved head is inspired by cage fighters, because we thought that Robin might be doing that in his spare time to keep him on his toes. Still, we kept all the classic trademarks of Robin’s appearance, such as the red and yellow colors of his outfit, the cape and the mask. We really hope that people will discover our Robin as one of their new favorite characters in the Batman universe. He is back and he means business.”

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, the Robin that will appear in Batman: Arkham City will be nothing like the ‘Boy Wonder’ in most areas but will still keep some traditional elements such as his costume. You can see how good the new Robin is when Batman: Arkham Asylum drops in October 2011 and ZKG will review the game around the same time.

I'm a big gaming fan who has been playing games since ever since Pokemon Yellow was released in the year 2000. I'm just glad that there are decent rugby games on the PS3 now after years of nothing. I need another Uncharted game...NOW!!!!!
