We don’t want to get you to panicked just yet and this is still a rumor but we are definitely tracking this one closely. Thanks to good folks over at the German video game forum Konsolentreff we now have our first info on what may be called PSN Pass. There is very little known about the new feature that may make its debut with the Resistance 3 bundle, but in a screenshot we can clearly see the emblem with the warning “Network features only available in countries that have PlayStation Store.” What the hell does that mean, at this point we can only assume its similar to what we have seen from several third-party publishers like EA and Rockstar where they use it to restrict access to certain online functionality.
If so then this isn’t anything too unique since companies like EA, Rockstar, THQ and Warner Bros have all been doing it recently. Sony makes the PS3 but they are also a publisher and this may just be them trying to protect their content and subtly nudge you to buy the game new (pokes stick directly at GameStop). Sony has used a similar strategy before, selling “Online Entitlement” passes for PSP games SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3 and ModNation Racers.
At this point Sony hasn’t commented so we don’t know for sure but as soon as there is some definitive info on this we will let you know, stick with us for more info as this develops.
