THQ Closes Kaos Studios But Confirms Homefront 2 Still In The Works

So earlier today the news broke that THQ had closed down Homefront developer Kaos Studios. That news was revealed not by the company but by Zach Wilson who was a level designer and writer at Kaos. THQ eventually confirmed the reports to Gamasutra a little while later. I can’t say this was totally unexpected as THQ had let go of some of the folks at Kaos earlier this year. Homefront was a pretty good game when we got our hands on it for review more than a week before its release, but glitch gameplay and unstable multiplayer ultimately led to the game being crushed by most reviewers. In spite of all that, to date Homefront has shipped more than 2.6 million copies to retail which is no small feat.

The other interesting piece of info related to this news was the confirmation that Homefront 2 is in fact in development at THQ Montreal who had a decent amount of input into the original game. THQ said that they had some “interesting” plans for the franchise and they felt like they learned a lot from the release of the original, specifically management and handling of dedicated servers. THQ admitted that they weren’t happy with the mixed reviews the game got and want to address a lot of the criticisms from the first game so that they get solid reviews across the board with the next game.

So what do you think guys, will you give Homefront 2 a chance whenever it comes out?
