Not many game series hit the illustrious 100 million sold mark. Mario, Pokemon and the Grand Theft Auto titles are some of the few that have managed the feat, but now we can add the Final Fantasy series to that illustrious list.

Square Enix has recently announced that sales of the RPG series have topped 100 million since the launch of the first game, Final Fantasy, back in 1987. Yoichi Wada, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix was happy to announce; “We are extremely proud of what the Final Fantasy franchise has achieved over the years and continue to be extremely excited about the future. I would like thank all of our fans, partners and development teams for their support”

The series itself is far from done, though reaction to their most recent game, Final Fantasy XIII, was mixed, work continues on its sequel Final Fantasy XIII-2, more of which is being shown at E3 this week.
