In an article published by The Korea Herald, it appears that Apple is now in talks with Samsung to include the manufacturers AMOLED displays in the iPad 3. According to the report, an anonymous source stated, “Apple wants to tap into Samsung’s AMOLED technology for an upgraded version of the iPad2, considered as many as the iPad3 that is likely to be launched toward the end of this year.” The report also states that Apple’s acting CEO, Tim Cook, discussed this with Samsung in a recent visit to South Korea, and offered and advance to guarantee supply.
Why AMOLED or Super AMOLED? Just look at the visual appeal on the Samsung Galaxy S2! “AMOLED displays have improved to the point where they are now considered to have significant advantage over LCDs. Super AMOLED displays, for instance, tout brighter screens, less sunlight reflection and reduced power consumption.”
If this is all accurate, the only worry should be supply. For the longest now, we’ve heard about the shortage of AMOLED displays. Whether or not Apple will have to worry about this, given their rumored advance, is questionable. However, one could safely assume that Samsung will make sure their products get the best display out as well. So what do you think about this development? Let us know!
