Good news for Motorola Droid X owners waiting on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update. Verizon Wireless will begin pushing the Gingerbread update out this Friday, May 27th. Verizon has detailed exactly what users can expect from this update. Check out a few below:

  • Download Manager App: New App to manage all of your downloads from web browsing, email attachments and other apps.
  • App and Power Management Details: Under Manage Applications, a new “Running” tab displays a list of active applications and the storage and memory being used by each.
  • Improved Word Selection and Copy Functionality: New capability to select a word via press-hold. A second press of the selected word copies the selected characters.
  • New User Interface and Color Scheme: New widgets, icons and screens with refreshed colors.

For the complete listing of updates and enhancements with this update, check out the source link and/or images below. Additionally, for those anxiously waiting on the update, Verizon has two options for us to choose from. The first, which I’m sure we all don’t like as much, is to wait on the over-the-air update. The other is initiated by you, the user. It as simple as: From the main menu, press the Menu Key > tap Settings > About phone > System updates > Download. However, a lot of users complain that this never works. Fortunately, there should be a manual update for all users shortly, which you will be able to grab from us here when it’s available.
