You knew it was coming, as long as the folks at XDA are on the job there will always be hope for the downtrodden, the oppressed and the unfortunate owners of phones that don’t support cool new stuff according to the manufacturer. The folks over at XDA have delivered a version of the Netflix app (currently only available for select phones) that seems to work for most devices. They have
hacked “adjusted” the application so that it doesn’t check for the device ID which allows it to run on almost any device. As it stands there are two versions, one that should work for pretty much everybody and another one for those who experience a crash after launching it. As always we will say that we don’t necessarily endorse this behavior and some of this stuff can seriously jack your phone, we just report about it :). Anyway, try it out and come back and let us know what you think. If you have any issue, hit up the XDA devs on the forums.
* So far we have reports that it doesn’t seem to work with the HTC Thunderbolt, Droid Charge, or Samsung Fascinate. Keep those reports coming and we can build a list and maybe get it over to XDA for some support.
