Hey folks welcome to a new series we are doing here called “Quick Rants”. These are post that are really designed to be short and to the point. They will focus on a particular topic area of a game and are meant to drive discussion and engagement from all of you. In our first quick rant we just want to go off about Starhawk and the absolute necessity for it to have dedicated servers. If you haven’t seen the trailers for Starhawk that show off its Build & Battle system then check them out here. As you can see from the video, the gameplay looks absolutely outrageous and we can’t wait to get our hands on it but there is one thing that can make or break this game. The use of dedicated servers. With a game that allows multiple players to dynamically alter the battlefield in real-time there is no other choice. With up to 32 people online at the same time the action is going to be intense and to make it all run smooth is going to require lots of server power and as a PS3 exclusive the normal online model just won’t cut it.
So I am sending a plea out to Dylan Jobe begging him to not let them release this game with anything less than dedicated servers for online multiplayer. On top of that force them to scale the servers appropriately from the start so us gamers don’t have to deal with tons of lag and dropped games. Alright folks, that’s it and the first quick rant is complete. Now you tell us, is there any way in hell that Sony or Lightbox should let this game be released without dedicated servers?
