According to TechCrunch, a knowledgeable source on the matter claims that TweetDeck has been acquired by Twitter for a price between $40 million and $50 million, which is a combination of cash and Twitter stock. Why? Well, this appears to be a defensive move for Twitter to block UberMedia from becoming too powerful. If you can remember, UberMedia pretty much had the wraps on the TweetDeck acquisition a couple of months ago, and were looking forward to adding to their growing number of Twitter client applications.
Though this has not been confirmed by either Twitter or TweetDeck, the source states that the deal “will be announced in the next few days.” If this is official, we won’t have long to know the true details behind it. Hopefully this does not affect any current benefits for TweetDeck users.
